Thinkpad X200 Ubuntu 11.10 [bug] Bluetooth doesn’t remember OFF state + workaround

With every new install of Ubuntu I encounter this same old unfixed bug. My Thinkpad X200 (and many other TPs) don’t remember the bluetooth state (OFF) between boot cycles. It’s well known (Bug #280811), but has low priority, also due to the fact that there is various workarounds.

For my own record and for the ones interested I document here my preferred workaround from thinkpad-wiki.org using the energy-saving tool TLP.

Dependencies

  • Make sure all custom powersaving options are disabled in  /etc/rc.local
  • If installed, remove laptop-mode-tools

Installation

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:linrunner/tlp
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install tlp

Now you’ll be able to disable bluetooth with the terminal command

bluetooth off

Open the StartupApplication dialog and add this command as a new entry. On reboot bluetooth should be disabled.
